Aloo Halwa Recipe with detailed photos. Aloo Halwa is an Indian sweet and creamy recipe made from boiled potato, ghee, sugar, and dry fruits. In India, this aloo halwa recipe is generally made during the fasting period like Ekadashi, Navratri, and Mahashivratri or in the month of Shraavana.
This aloo halwa is also called batata shira in Maharashtra and is one of the most popular desserts in Maharashtrian cuisine. Many Maharashtrian families make this aloo ka halwa during upwas or fasting days.

Ingredients
2 big sized Potatoes (boiled)
3 tablespoon ghee (clarified butter)
¾ cup milk
¾ cup sugar
3-4 Cashew nut and Almonds each
¼ teaspoon cardamom powder
Preparation
1. Wash, boil, peel, and grate the potatoes.
2. Cut the cashew and almond.
How to make Aloo Halwa
1. Heat the pan with 3 tablespoons of ghee.
2. Add almond and cashew nut and fry them till they turn golden and remove them from pan.
3. Now add grated or mashed potato in ghee and mix it very well.
4. Stir continuously to avoid potato sticking to the pan.
5. After 2 minutes add ¾ cup milk and stir continuously till potato absorb all the milk in it.
6. After that add ¾ cup sugar and mix well. You can add more or less sugar as per your taste.
7. Stir until it looks glossy and thickens slightly.
8. Add fried cashew and almond.
9. Lastly, add ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder and mix it well.
10. Aloo Halwa or Batata Shira is ready to serve. Garnish with almond.
Suggestion
1. You can add jaggery instead of sugar in this recipe. But remember it will change the halwa color.
