Chana Pulao Recipe | Indian Chickpea Rice | How to make Chana Pulao with detailed photos. Tasty and healthy chana pulao is a one-pot meal that can be served for lunch and dinner.
Indian Chickpea rice or chana pulao is made with Kabuli chana or chole (white chickpea), basmati rice, vegetables, and some spices. This is an ideal lunch box recipe enjoyed by kids as well as adults.
It is a very easy recipe and can be prepared with very few ingredients easily available in our kitchen.

Ingredients
¾ cup chana/chole, 1 cup basmati rice, ½ cup sliced onion, 1 medium-sized sliced capsicum, ½ cup finely chopped tomato, 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste, 1 green chilli, 1 teaspoon ghee, 2-3 teaspoons chopped coriander, 2 tablespoon oil, Salt as per taste, Water 2 cups
Spices
1 bay leaf, 1-star Annies, 2-3 black pepper, ½ inch cinnamon, 1 cardamom, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 1 teaspoon cumin powder, ½ teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
Preparation
1. Soak ¾ cup chana overnight or for at least 7-8 hours.
2. Add the chana to the Pressure cooker along with 2-3 cups of fresh water and pressure cook the chana for 7-8 whistles.
3. Make sure the chana is cooked well.
How to make Chana Pulao
1. Wash and soak the basmati rice in water for 20 minutes.
2. Heat the pressure cooker with 2 tablespoons of oil. Add 1 bay leaf, 1-star Annies, 2-3 black pepper, ½ inch cinnamon, 1 cardamom, and 1 slit green chilli.
3. Now, add ½ cup finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent and golden.
4. Add 1 sliced capsicum and stir.
5. Also, add 1 teaspoon of ginger garlic paste.
6. Further, add ½ cup finely chopped tomato and sauté for a minute.
7. Add 1 teaspoon of cumin powder, ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder, and 1 teaspoon of coriander powder. Stir on low flame until aromatic.
8. Now, add boiled chana and mix well.
9. Also, add soaked basmati rice and stir gently. Don’t break the rice grains.
10. Add 1 tablespoon of ghee and stir.
11. Further, add 2 cups of water and stir gently.
12. Add salt as per taste.
13. Lastly, add 2-3 teaspoons of chopped coriander.
14. Close the lid and pressure cook the rice for 1 whistle on high flame and then 5 minutes on low flame.
15. When the pressure is released from the cooker, open the lid of the cooker.
16. Finally, Chana pulao or Chole pulao is ready to serve.
Suggestion
1. You can add your choice of vegetables in chana pulao.
2. If you are using canned chickpeas, then no need to soak and boil the chana.
