Potato smiley is a potato-based snack recipe, very popular among kids for its smiley face shape and crunch. It’s a very easy recipe with very few ingredients.
Potato smiley is made with boiled mashed potato, bread crumbs, and cornflour. Potato smiley is a deep-fried snack that can serve as party snacks and tea-time snacks. You can also bake the potato smiley instead of deep-frying.
To make perfect potato smiley, do not overcook the potatoes it will make the potato dough mushy and sticky. Also, use very fine bread crumbs. Here in this recipe, I have used homemade bread crumbs.

Ingredients
2 cups boiled, peeled, and grated potato
¾ cup bread crumbs
3 tablespoon cornflour
Salt to taste
Oil for frying
How to make Potato Smiley
1. In a mixing bowl, take 2 cups boiled, peeled, and grated potato.
2. Add ¾ cup bread crumbs, 3 tablespoon cornflour, and salt to the taste.
3. Mix all the ingredients and make a soft dough. Add more bread crumbs if needed. Then cover and refrigerate the dough for 20 minutes.
4. After 20 minutes, knead the dough slightly.
5. Pinch a big ball-sized dough and make a patty.
6. First, Spread the patty on butter paper by using your hand.
7. Then roll the patty into a thick circle, using a rolling pin.
8. Further, take a small Katori or cookie cutter and cut the round shapes.
9. Make eyes using a cake decorating nozzle. You can also use a straw.
10. Also, make a smile using a spoon.
11. Make all smiles and keep them aside.
How to fry the Potato Smiley
1. Heat the oil in kadhai or pan.
2. Add smiley in hot oil.
3. Deep fry the potato smiley on medium flame.
4. When it turns golden on one side, flip it.
5. Fry until looks golden and crisp and then remove from the oil.
6. Finally, serve hot and crispy potato smiley with sauce.
Suggestion
1. You can add more bread crumbs while making potato dough.
2. Also, you can use red chilli powder or black pepper for a spicy flavor.
